Choosing a Material

We install vinyl, fiber cement, composite, wood, and aluminum siding, and which one makes sense usually comes down to your neighborhood’s rules, your budget, and how much maintenance you want to deal with going forward. Some neighborhoods have covenants that don’t allow vinyl siding at all, so that’s always worth checking first.

Vinyl still makes up more than half of the siding installed today. It’s maintenance-free, pre-colored, and has come a long way in durability and appearance compared to older vinyl from decades past. Fiber cement, including James Hardy and CertainTeed products, costs roughly double what vinyl does but offers more design flexibility — it can be purchased pre-finished in a color or primed for painting, though it isn’t maintenance-free. Composite siding splits the difference: lighter than fiber cement, pre-finished like vinyl, and a bit more durable than standard vinyl.

As a general contractor, we’re also able to match new siding to existing siding on additions, so if you like your current siding and are just adding onto the house, we can often make the new work blend in.

What We Find

Mold behind old siding does happen, particularly where older wood siding has rotted and allowed water to get behind it over the years. We treat any mold we find before installing new siding over it. On older homes, we also test for lead paint before disturbing old wood siding or trim, since homes built before the 1980s may have lead-based paint underneath. If lead is present, that work has to follow proper abatement procedures.

What’s Included

A full siding job includes the trim work that makes it look finished and stay maintenance-free: starter strip, J-channel, corner posts, aluminum-wrapped windows, and aluminum-covered soffit and fascia.
